Campanula Portenschlagiana: From the Campanulaceae family.

Physostegia Virginiana: From the Lamiaceae family. Bouquet Rose has pink blossoms, Rosy Spire has red blossoms and Schneekrone has white blossoms.

Potentilla Fruticosa: Belongs to Potentilla in the Rosaceae family. Potens is Latin for forceful, strong. Abbotswood has white blossoms, Goldfinger has yellow blossoms, and Princess has pink blossoms.

Jean-Baptiste Greuze was born on 21 August 1725, in Tournus, Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy, France. He studied painting in Lyon. In ca 1750, Jean-Baptiste Greuze attended the Académie Royal, in Paris. In 1755, he painted Le Père de Famille Expliquant la Bible and Blind Man Deceived. In 1755, Greuze exhibited Aveugle Trompé. From 1755 to 1757, he was in Italy. In 1757, Greuze exhibited Indolence, Broken Eggs, The Neapolitan Gesture and The Fowler at the salon. In 1759, he painted Portrait of Ange-Laurent La Live de Jully, The Marquise de Bezons Tuning Her Guitar, Young Girl Mourning her Dead Bird and Silence! In 1761, The Marriage Contract, The Village Bride and The Laundress. In 1762, The Broken Mirror. In 1763, The Paralytic Father. In 1763-1764, Portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). In 1765, The Well-Loved Mother, The Father's Curse and The Prodigal Son. In 1767, Girl Playing with a Dog. 19-20th Cent. Phyllis Dare


Phyllis Constance Haddie Dones was born on 15 August 1890, in Chelsea, London, England. She had two siblings, Zena (1887-1975) and Jack. In 1899, she made her stage debut. In 1905, she was Angela in The Catch of the Season. In 1906, Julia Chaldicott in The Belle of Mayfair, in London. Her sister, Zena Dare married Maurice Brett in 1911. Phyllis Dare was engaged to the composer Paul Rubens. He dedicated the song, I Love the Moon to her. In 1913, Dare appeared in the film Other Dances. Paul Rubens died in 1917. In 1940, the sisters, Phyllis Dare and Zena Dare starred together on stage in Full House. Zena Dare died in March 1975. Phyllis Dare died aged 84, on 27 April 1975, in Brighton, England.

Briton Rivière was born on 14 August 1840, in London, England. He was the son of William Rivière. He attended Cheltenham College, before he continued his education at Oxford. In 1857, Briton Rivière exhibited at the Royal Academy. In 1863, he exhibited The Eve of the Spanish Armada. In 1864, Romeo and Juliet. In 1869, Briton Rivière painted The Empty Chair. In 1878, Briton Rivière was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy. Briton Rivière died on 20 April 1920, in London, England.

19-20th Cent. Abbott Handerson Thayer


Abbott Handerson Thayer was born on 12 August 1849, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In 1839, he attended the Brooklyn Art School. Abbott Handerson Thayer married Kate Bloede. The couple's children included Mary Handerson Thayer, Gerald Handerson Thayer and Gladys Handerson Thayer. In 1875, he continued his education at the École des Beaux-Arts, in Paris, France. In 1901, the family settled in New Hampshire. His wife, Kate Bloede died in early 1900. Abbott Handerson Thayer married his second wife, Emma Beach. In 1909, he published Concealing Coloration in the Animal Kingdom: An Exposition of the Laws of Disguise through Color and Pattern; Being a Summary of Abbott H. Thayer's Disclosures. Abbott Handerson Thayer died on 29 May 1921, in New Hampshire, USA.

Dorothy Walton Gatley was born on 7 August 1901, in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, USA. In 1921, she made her Broadway debut. Ann Harding married the actor Harry Bannister on 21 October 1926. The couple had a daughter, Jane Bannister. In 1929, Ann Harding appeared as Mary Hutton in Paris Bound, Vera Kessler in Her Private Affair and Madame Vidal in Condemned. In 1930, as Linda in Holiday and Minnie in The Girl of the Golden West. Ann Harding received an Academy Award nomination as Best Actress for her role in Holiday. In 1931, she played Lady Isabel in East Lynne and Shirley in Devotion. In 1932, as Therese Du Flos in Prestige, Olivia in Westward Passage, Carolyn Ogden in The Conquerors and Daisy in The Animal Kingdom. Harding and Bannister were divorced in 1932. In 1933, she starred as Claire in When Ladies Meet, Joan Colby in Double Harness and Dr. Margaret Simmons in The Right to Romance. In 1934, as Sally Wyndham in Gallant Lady, Vergie Winters in The Life of Vergie Winters and Julie Von Narwitz in The Fountain. In 1935, as Marion Forsythe in Biography of a Bachelor Girl, Lotty Wilkins in Enchanted April, Mary White in The Flame Within and Mary, Duchess of Towers in Peter Ibbetson with Gary Cooper. In 1943, Marjorie Davies in Mission to Moscow and Sophia in the North Star. In 1944, Grace Thornton in Nine Girls and Lucile Conway in Janie. In 1945, Mrs. Brandt in Those Endearing Young Charms. In 1946, Lucile Conway in Janie Gets Married. In 1947, Mary O'Connor in It Happened on 5th Avenue and Aunt Matilda in Christmas Eve. In 1950, Katherine Robinson in Two Weeks with Love. Mary William Ethelbert Appleton Burke was born on 7 August 1884, in Washington D.C., USA. She was the daughter of the Circus Clown, Billy Burke. In 1903, Billie Burke made her stage debut in London, England. From 1910, she starred at Broadway. Billie Burke married Florenz Ziegfeld (21 March 1867 - 22 July 1932) in 1914. From 1897 to 1913, Florenz Ziegfeld was with Anna Held (1873-1918). Burke and Ziegfeld had a daughter, Patricia Ziegfeld born in 1916. In 1916, Billie Burke made her film debut in Peggy. In 1919-1920, she starred in Ziegfeld's play Caesar's Wife. In 1921-1922, in The Intimate Strangers. In 1922-1923, Rose Briar. In 1924-1925, Annie Dear. In 1932, as Margaret Fairlfield in A Bill of Divorcement opposite John Barrymore and David Manners. Her husband, Florenz Ziegfeld died on 22 July 1932, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. In 1933, she was Millicent Jordan in Dinner at Eight. Billie Burke appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1934. She was a client of the fashion designer Lucy Christiana, Lady Duff Gordon (1863-1935). Billie Burke performed in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1936. In 1936, Myrna Loy (1905-1993) portrayed Billie Burke in The Great Ziegfeld. In 1938, Billie Burke appeared as Emily Kilbourne in Merrily We Live. She was nominated an Academy Award for her role in Merrily We Live. In 1939, she was Glinda, the Good Witch of the North in The Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland (1922-1969). In 1940, she starred in Hullabaloo and The Captain is a Lady. From 1943 to 1946, Billie Burke appeared in The Billie Burke Show on CBS Radio. She performed in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1946. In 1949, Billie Burke published her autobiography With a Feather on My Nose. In 1950, Billie Burke appeared in Three Husbands and Father of the Bride opposite Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011). In 1951, in Father's Little Dividend with Elizabeth Taylor. In 1952, for Television in Doc Corkle. In 1960, Sergeant Rutledge. In 1959, she published her autobiography With Powder on My Nose. Billie Burke died aged 85, on 14 May 1970, in Los Angeles, California. She was buried at Kensico Cemetery, in Valhalla, New York. Anna McKim was born on 2 August 1911, in New York, USA. She was the daughter of Anna Lehr and Samuel McKim. As both her parents were actors and her father also director, she made an early film debut. In 1916, she starred in Ramona. In 1917, The Man Hater. She attended the St. Catherine's Convent, in Manhattan. She continued her education at the Page School for Girls, in Los Angeles. In 1920, she played in The Five Dollar Plate. In 1929, in So this is College, The Doll Shop, Manhattan Serenade, It's a Great Life and Devil May Care. Ann Dvorak married the actor, Leslie Fenton. Ann Dvorak married Nicholas Wade in 1951. Nicholas Wade died in 1977. Ann Dvorak died of stomach cancer aged 68, on 10 December 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was cremated. Ann Dvorak has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 6321 Hollywood Boulevard.
